The Governor Signs My Gun Safety Bill Into Law

Governor

On June 2nd, 2022, the New York Assembly Majority passed a package of Gun Safety legislation designed to prevent future instances of gun violence in our state.

As part of this bill, I introduced A.10503, a bill which requires individuals in New York State to obtain a license and be 21 years of age to purchase a semiautomatic rifle. That night, I debated the bill on the Assembly floor, which you can watch in the video below.

On Monday, the Governor signed the Gun Safety Legislation Package, turning my bill into a law.

What to Consider When Nominating a Child

Please consider the following when nominating a child. This information is also outlined in the webinar and the nomination tool:

  • The entire year’s learning experience with each individual child;
  • Each individual child holistically;
  • Observed indicators that may occur more than once (consider a wide range of observations and not a minimum/maximum number);
  • View each child from a strengths-based perspective;
  • Many ways children express what they know and are able to do.

In addition, thoughtfully consider each child’s:

  • Ability to demonstrate advanced competencies in some specific indicators;
  • Comprehensive observation data.
